IntelliChoice: Toyota Remains Strong in Best Deals Rankings
IRVINE, Calif. — In spite of its recalls, Toyota has still managed to hold its ground quite well in IntelliChoice.com's "Best Deals of the Month" rankings, as it was, again, well represented when the site rolled out its March winners late last week.
As most know, the Best Deals list recognizes vehicles across 31 segments that blend "outstanding value and lower-than-expected costs."
IntelliChoice.com says the March value ratings suggest that the Toyota brand "continues to display resilience in the face of recalls."
Also, the March value ratings point to Volkswagen and Mini showing that they are "long-term value champions."
"Toyota has a public relations crisis on its hands, but thus far we are seeing very little impact on the Toyota brand when it comes to value," stated Charlie Vogelheim, executive editor of IntelliChoice.com.
"Toyota continues to maintain its hold on about one-third of our overall segment winners, thanks to the fact that the automaker excels at every aspect of cost of ownership," he added. "We are monitoring the recall situation carefully, but at this point, Toyota does not appear to have lost much equity when it comes to its reputation for value."
As far as domestics, Ford and Chrysler both returned to the Best Deals list, as the Lincoln MKX and Chrysler 300C offered substantial rebates, helping those vehicles take their respective categories' honors.
Specifically, there is a $3,000 rebate offered on the MKX, which won the luxury crossover category, and there is a $2,000 rebate on the 300C, which earned top honors in the sports sedan/wagon segment.
General Motors, meanwhile, held its perch atop the full-size truck segments. Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks were winners in all of the full-size truck segments except for the full-size pickup 2WD 1/2-Ton category, which went to the Toyota Tundra.
