This is a classic example of a big company trying to change the way small businesses operate so that they can have them as customers. What ever happened to, “What can I do to help your business grow?” In this case, it looks like, “You need to change the way you conduct your business so that I can have you as a customer and get money/income from you.”

BHPH dealerships are NOT in the business of just selling automobiles and it seems obvious that AutoTrader does NOT understand that . BHPH dealers are creditors much more than they are auto dealers. The vehicles they sell are the means to their core business, which is financing. If AutoTrader understood that, it would create a method to broadcast that message targeted towards those consumers who are shut out of the traditional financing sources due to bad credit history. Setting them up to compete on price and terms by being “transparent” does not help BHPH dealers because they are not selling cars. They are selling access to transportation to those who have no other options. Because they take risks that are much greater than the average finance company, they simply will not succeed if they tried to compete with other dealers based on price, down payments, and monthly payments. Trying to do so will only set them up for disappointment with whatever AutoTrader.com is trying to sell them. I would have thought that with all the resources at its disposal, AutoTrader would know better.
